The 86th Academy Awards
 The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that the field of Documentary Short Subject contenders for the 86th Academy Awards® has been narrowed to eight films, of which three to five will earn Oscar® nominations.

In the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' latest celebration of works by Academy film scholars, Donald Crafton, professor of film, television and theater at the University of Notre Dame, will present highlights from his book Shadow of a Mouse: Performance, Belief, and World-Making in Animation on Wednesday, October 23, at 7:30 p.m. at the Academy's Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood.

The 86th Academy Awards
A record 76 countries have submitted films for consideration in the Foreign Language Film category for the 86th Academy Awards®.

 

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Mary Pickford Foundation will continue their annual celebration of silent film with screenings of two silent film classics from 1928 – "The Crowd" on Tuesday, October 22, and "The Student Prince in Old Heidelberg" on Thursday, October 24 – at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

 

Three members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ newly created Casting Directors Branch have been elected to the Academy Board of Governors. 

 

 The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and Bpeace, the Business Council for Peace, will co-present a special screening of the 2013 documentary "Finding Hillywood," which examines the budding film industry in Rwanda, on Monday, October 21, at 7 p.m. at the Academy Theater in New York City.

Academy Nicholl Fellowship
 Nine individual screenwriters and one writing team have been selected as finalists for the 2013 Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting competition. Their scripts will now be read and judged by the Academy Nicholl Fellowships Committee, which may award as many as five of the prestigious $35,000 fellowships.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the classic Western "Shane" with a screening of a new digital restoration from Paramount Pictures on Monday, September 16, at the Academy Theater in New York City, with a special video message by director Woody Allen; and on Monday, October 7, at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, with an in-person introduction by director James Mangold.
