Academy Museum
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today that it has received a $20 million gift from the Dalian Wanda Group for the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. The gift was made as part of the Academy Museum's $300 million capital campaign and is the second largest commitment received to date. In recognition of this gift, the Academy will name the Museum's film history gallery The Wanda Gallery.

Paula Wagner will produce the 5th Annual Governors Awards for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs announced today. The Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award and three Honorary Awards will be presented to Angelina Jolie, Angela Lansbury, Steve Martin and Piero Tosi, respectively, on Saturday, November 16, at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland Center®.

Closely Watched Trains
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presents a special screening of the 1967 Foreign Language Film Oscar® winner "Closely Watched Trains" on Monday, September 23, at 7:30 p.m. at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. The evening, which will be hosted by Oscar-nominated writer-director Philip Kaufman ("The Unbearable Lightness of Being"), includes a rare onstage discussion with the film's director, Jiří Menzel.

 Writer-director Gregory Nava, actor Gael García Bernal, cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto and Gabriel Figueroa Flores will celebrate the life and career of the renowned Mexican cinematographer Gabriel Figueroa on Tuesday, September 17, at 7:30 p.m. at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

Hollywood Home Movies
 The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will kick off a day-long celebration of home movies on Saturday, October 12, at noon, with "Home Movie Day Los Angeles," a free event that welcomes Angelenos, their families and friends to watch their personal home movies on the big screen.

 

The Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced the creation of the Casting Directors Branch. Casting directors began to be invited to Academy membership more than 30 years ago, many of them admitted as Members-at-Large.
