Jeffrey Katzenberg and Steven Spielberg
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences received separate $10 million gifts from Jeffrey Katzenberg and Steven Spielberg for the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. In recognition of these gifts, the two main galleries on the lobby floor of the Academy Museum will be named for Katzenberg and Spielberg – The Marilyn and Jeffrey Katzenberg Gallery and The Spielberg Family Gallery.

 Channing Tatum and The Academy today launched the "Team Oscar" college search on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," along with this year's Oscars host, Ellen DeGeneres, by inviting the next generation of filmmakers to vie for an opportunity to appear onstage during the live Oscar broadcast. Winners will deliver Oscar statuettes to celebrity presenters at the Academy Awards® on Oscar Sunday, March 2, 2014, live on ABC.

The 86th Academy Awards
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that 10 animated short films will advance in the voting process for the 86th Academy Awards®. Fifty-six pictures had originally qualified in the category.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present a special screening of the documentary "John F. Kennedy: Years of Lightning, Day of Drums," on Friday, November 22, the 50th anniversary of President Kennedy's assassination. Oscar®-winning writer Aaron Sorkin will introduce the commemorative screening, which will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the Academy's Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood.

 The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is pleased to announce a recent acquisition by the Margaret Herrick Library of costume design drawings and related production materials documenting the career of costume designer Michael Woulfe.

 

Wendy Aylsworth, Rob Bredow, Douglas Greenfield, Rob Hummel and Bev Pasterczyk have accepted invitations to join the Science and Technology Council of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, bringing the Council's 2013–2014 membership roster to 25.

Academy Nicholl Fellowship
 Four individual writers and one writing team have been selected as winners of the 2013 Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting competition. Each winner will receive a $35,000 prize, the first installment of which will be distributed at an awards presentation on Thursday, November 7, at 7:30 p.m. at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. For the first time, the event will also feature a live read of selected scenes from the fellows' winning scripts.
