THE LATE SHIRLEY TEMPLE BLACK AND FAMILY GIVE MAJOR GIFT TO THE ACADEMY MUSEUM OF MOTION PICTURES

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today that it has received a gift valued at more than $5 million from the late Oscar®-winning Hollywood actress and United States Ambassador Shirley Temple Black and her family. This gift includes both a substantial monetary contribution to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures’ capital campaign as well as key artifacts from Shirley Temple Black’s indelible early career. 

Cary Phillips and Dr. Doug Roble have accepted invitations to join the Science and Technology Council of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, bringing the Council’s 2015–2016 membership roster to 25.Phillips is currently the co-head of research and development at Industrial Light & Magic.  In the more than 20 years since he joined the company, he has won three Academy Technical Achievement Awards: for the design and development of the Caricature Animation System in 1998, and for his contributions to the ILM Creature Dynamics System and the ILM Shape Sculpting System in 2001…

Composer Jerry Goldsmith possessed a unique gift of being able to write music to emotionally support a film and to convey musically the inexpressible and unseen. His Oscar-nominated, landmark score for the 1970 film Patton brilliantly illustrates this with its unexpected and memorable use of two trumpets that play a three-note pattern that is manipulated to intentionally add delay to the notes.
