Five individuals have been selected as winners of the 2023 Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting.  Each individual will receive a $35,000 prize and mentorship from an Academy member throughout their fellowship year.  They also will be featured at the Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting Awards and Live Read on April 25 at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater, where an ensemble of actors will read selected scenes from the 2023 winning scripts.  The Nicholl Fellowships were established in 1985 through the support of Gee Nicholl in memory of her husband Don Nicholl.

Erica Eng and July Jung have been selected as the U.S. and international recipients, respectively, of the 2023 Academy Gold Fellowship for Women.  Part of the Academy Gold global talent development and inclusion initiative, the Fellowship for Women is a one-year program that combines direct support, personalized mentorship and access to once-in-a-lifetime networking opportunities for emerging women filmmakers to further their pursuits in the field.  The Academy currently awards two fellowships annually, one in the U.S. and one internationally, each with a prize amount of $35,000.  The fellowship, presented for the second year in partnership with CHANEL, is now in its sixth year.

As part of its commitment to reducing its environmental impact and building a legacy of sustainability across its operations, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announces a partnership with Red Carpet Green DressTM Global (RCGD Global) to expand its ongoing sustainability efforts.  RCGD Global is a women-founded company that promotes sustainability within the entertainment and design worlds.  The partnership includes adopting the tenets of RCGD Global’s “Sustainable Style Guide,” which provides guidance on sustainable red-carpet fashion.  A bespoke edition of the guide will be distributed in advance to attendees of Academy events this Oscar® season.  The bespoke style guide can be viewed here, and an extended version will be released by RCGD Global later this month.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences tonight honored its student winners from colleges and universities around the world at the 49th Student Academy Awards® ceremony.  The Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal awards were announced and presented during an in-person ceremony, a first since 2019, held at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures’ David Geffen Theater in Los Angeles.  This year, the Student Academy Awards competition received a total of 1,796 entries from 614 colleges and universities around the world.  The 2022 winners join the ranks of such past Student Academy Award® winners as Patricia Cardoso, Pete Docter, Spike Lee, Patricia Riggen and Robert Zemeckis.  Hosted by Terrence Jenkins, the 2022 ceremony is available to view here.
