The fee-based National Film Information Service of the Margaret Herrick Library can assist with queries from patrons who are outside of a 150-mile radius from the Fairbanks Center for Motion Picture Study. Requests for information must be in writing and should be as specific as possible. Requests can be accepted by e-mail, fax, or letter. The National Film Information Service also conducts photograph research and can provide many images from the library’s collections.
The $10 fee covers a minimal amount of staff time and several pages of photocopies. The fee is for the search and does not guarantee that an answer to the query will be found. Additional service can be provided for a search fee that starts at $30 an hour. The photocopy charge is $1 per page. The charge for picture reproductions starts at $45 for an 8x10 black-and-white print or 300 PPI jpeg file, and $85 for a 600 PPI tiff file.
***Please note there will be a price increase in NFIS fees effective Jan 1, 2019. The minimum fee will be $15, and the search fee will be $35 per hour.
Mailing fees (excluding oversize and international shipping) are a flat rate of $5.
The Margaret Herrick Library’s telephone or e-mail reference services may be an option for some patrons. Please see Reference Assistance for more information.
