Steven Soderbergh is considered one of the rare working filmmakers who proactively preserves his own work. As a result, each of Steven Soderbergh’s most recent films generate a complete Linear Tape Open (LTO) archive—a backup tape media storage known to have a 15-to-30-year life cycle beyond contemporary hard drive capabilities. Preservation work continues for his independently produced classics of the 1990s to this day. Since 2013 the Archive has housed over 100 items including production elements—of Soderbergh earliest short films such as, “Rapid Eye Movement” (1982), “Winston” (1987), as well as his breakthrough independent feature, “Sex, Lies, and Videotape” (1989), and 35mm prints of Academy Award® winning “Erin Brockovich” (2000) and “Traffic” (2000).
