The Academy Film Archive began a relationship with the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival (LALIFF) in 2002, aimed at building a collection that documents Latino cinema while increasing its exposure in the U.S. and abroad. Preservation projects include “Mina Alaska” (1968) and “Los Pequeños Gigantes” (1960); and new prints have been made of “Macario” (1960) and “Vamonos Con Pancho Villa!” (1936). Additionally, the Archive has been the repository of all submission screeners collected by the Festival. The titles in the LALIFF Collection, now numbering over 500, represent films made by Latinos in the Hispanic diaspora, and are a continually growing documentation of Latino cinema, both past and present.
