Kimby Caplan, perhaps most well known for her career as a cinematographer, has also directed a number of short films and experimental work. The Archive has been home to her early work since 2006. The collection includes original elements for “Requiem” (1996), “Texas” (1997), “Director Dreaming” (1999), “The Country I Remember” (2009), and “Listen” (2004), which chronicles the efforts of her parents to bring sound, voice, and a new way of being to their own deaf child and, consequently, to those of others. Caplan directed “Listen” while attending Southern Methodist University, and the film was soon thereafter honored with a Student Academy Award in the Documentary category.
