The David Lynch Collection arrived at the Academy Film Archive in 2007 from filmmaker David Lynch. The collection consists of approximately 660 items that includes 16mm and 35mm film prints, videos, and audio elements. The acquisition includes David Lynch’s student films, “The Grandmother” (1970) and “The Alphabet” (1968) (both preserved by the Academy Film Archive), his later feature films such as “The Straight Story” (1999), “Wild at Heart” (1990), “Lost Highway” (1997), and the classic midnight movie “Eraserhead” (1977). David Lynch has been nominated by the Academy three times in the Best Director category: “The Elephant Man” (1980), “Blue Velvet” (1986), “Mulholland Dr.” (2001), and was also nominated by the Academy in the category of  Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay for “The Elephant Man” (1980).
