THE LONG-AWAITED RETURN TO THE SCREEN AFTER MORE THAN 40 YEARS
Co-presented by The Film Foundation and HBO Documentary Films
Recently awarded the prestigious FOCAL International Award for Best Archive Restoration & Preservation presented by the Associated Press, the Academy Film Archive’s restoration of Marcel Ophuls’s haunting documentary was probably the most complex project that the archive has yet undertaken. With a running time of four-and-a-half hours and requiring subtitles for three different languages, this multi-faceted examination of war and the scope of the human cost it exacts returns to the screen after many years.
Restoration by the Academy Film Archive in association with Paramount Pictures and The Film Foundation. Restoration funding provided by The Material World Charitable Foundation, Righteous Persons Foundation and The Film Foundation.
Produced and directed by Marcel Ophuls.
1:33, mono, DCP, 278 minutes.
