“Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”
Leaps onto Academy Screen

Beverly Hills, CA — The 2000 Best Picture nominee “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” will be screened on Monday, June 23, at 7:30 p.m. at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater as the next feature in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ “Great To Be Nominated” series.  Ang Lee’s thrilling action-adventure film pays homage to the martial arts fantasies of his youth with a story involving two master warriors, the Green Destiny sword, and a young aristocrat with enviable fighting prowess.  Following the screening, visual effects supervisor Rob Hodgson will participate in a discussion about the film.

“Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” earned a total of ten Academy Award® nominations and won Oscars® for Art Direction (Tim Yip), Cinematography (Peter Pau), Foreign Language Film (Taiwan) and Music – Original Score (Tan Dun).  The film also received nominations for Best Picture (Bill Kong, Hsu Li Kong, Ang Lee, producers), Costume Design (Yip), Directing (Lee), Film Editing (Tim Squyres), Music – Original Song (“A Love Before Time,” Music by Jorge Calandrelli and Tan Dun; Lyric by James Schamus) and Writing – Screenplay based on material previously produced or published (Wang Hui Ling, Schamus, Tsai Kuo Jung).

The Oscar-nominated animated short “Rejected” will be screened prior to the feature.

Passes for part five of “Great To Be Nominated” are $30 for the general public and $25 for Academy members and students with a valid ID.  Including “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” there are nine films remaining in the series.  A $5 discount is available for those who wish to renew their passes from parts one, two, three or four of the series.  Individual tickets are $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid ID.  Passes and tickets may be purchased online at www.oscars.org, by mail, in person at the Academy during regular business hours or, depending on availability, on the night of the screening when the doors open at 6:30 p.m.
