Arriving in 2007, the Kathy Rose Collection contains the complete original and projection materials for the films of independent animator and performer Kathy Rose, comprising approximately 75 items. Between 1970 and 1978, Rose created numerous animated shorts in 16mm and 35mm, including “Mirror People” (1974), “The Doodlers” (1975), and “Pencil Booklings” (1978). Rose then began to design dance performances that incorporated animation projections with which she (and sometimes other dancers) would interact, including “Strange Ditties” (1983), “Oriental Interplay” (1991), and “Kleopat’Ra” (1999). Though the pieces are ephemeral in nature, as they rely on her live interaction with the animated projections, the film materials for them reside in her collection at the Academy Film Archive.
