Premiere of a new 4K digital restoration
Introduced by Oscar-Winning Visual Effects Artist Rob Legato
The premiere of a new digital restoration of Rebecca, was introduced by Theo Gluck (Director, Library Restoration) and Jayson Wall (Library Archivist) from The Walt Disney Studios, which supervised the restoration.
The evening also included remarks by two-time Oscar winner and visual effects supervisor Rob Legato, who discussed the collaboration between producer David O. Selznick and director Alfred Hitchcock on Rebecca, as well as the visual design of the film.
Based on the novel by the same name, Rebecca was Hitchcock’s first American project and his first film produced under his contract with Selznick. Starring Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine, the film was nominated for 11 Academy Awards and won two, for Outstanding Production (later renamed the Best Picture Award) and Black-and-White Cinematography. Rebecca was the second of three films Hitchcock adapted from stories by Daphne du Maurier.
