WEB SOFTWARE ENGINEER
Full-Time Position
Job Description
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is accepting applications from interested and qualified individuals for a full-time position as Web Software Engineer for the Academy’s Web site. The position is based in Beverly Hills at the Academy’s headquarters. The position will maintain existing applications, build and further develop new Web applications that will add features and enhancements to the Academy’s online properties. The Web group is a small team with lots of room for creative input and direct impact on Web sites seen by millions each year. We also work with unique and exciting film-related content not available anywhere else in the world.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work closely with both in-house and third-party Web developers, designers and content gatherers to develop new Web applications as well as maintain and enhance existing applications.
- Oversee third-party hosted backend infrastructure including a Linux Apache MySQL PHP stack (Rackspace) and content delivery network (Akamai).
- Design and scope backend and middleware recommendations, requirements and infrastructure for new Web projects, while working alongside front-end Web developers, user experience designers, and product managers.
- Develop production-level code as well as proof-of-concepts and prototypes.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- B.S. Computer Science or equivalent work experience
- 2-4 years developing Web applications in PHP/MySQL
- Previous work experience configuring and maintaining a LAMP stack
- Strong interest in developing applications throughout their full life-cycle, inception to quality assurance to deployment and maintenance.
- Desire and ability to learn new and emerging technologies as needed
- Excellent collaborative, interpersonal and communication skills
PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Familiar with Web 2.0 front-end technologies; xHTML, CSS, JavaScript, Ajax
- Portfolio of applications previously developed in PHP/MySQL or other languages
- Knowledge of programming, algorithms, data-structures, databases, OO programming, and other software concepts
- Experience and interest working across backend and front-end open technologies (LAMP) to build complete web application systems
- Passion for developing applications beyond functionality to include standards of scale, speed, security, and reliability
- Program and configure in a UNIX environment, including shell scripting
- Familiar with Yahoo! YUI libraries, FilemakerPro servers, and Dreamweaver products
Salary
Salary commensurate with experience. Full benefits along with qualifying 401(k) and pension program. Relocation fees are not available for this position.
